How to make a lamp

This is my favorite project so far.
In fact, I got so excited while I was doing it that I forgot to take pictures of all the steps.
I will do my best to explain how to do it anyway.

Here is what you will need:

4 (or more, depending how high you want to make your lampstand) enamel bowls and 1 enamel plate

a drill and a metal drill bit that is as big as the diameter of your metal rod

a hollow metal rod as long as your lampstand is high, with thread cut into it on either end

a nail and a hammer

2 screws that fit on the rod, and two washers

glue suitable for enamel and metal

a socket and a bulb

electrical cable and a plug

I started off by putting some wood in a vice grip, to have something to put the enamel bowls over while drilling holes.
It wasn't pretty but it did the job:

Find the middle of the bowl. To do that, put the bowl down on a piece of paper, take a pen and draw around the bowl, then take the paper and fold it in half. Then fold it in half again and open the last fold again. Cover the half of the bottom of the bowl with your paper and you have the middle of the bowl:

Hammer your nail into the middle. Take the nail out again. The hole makes it easier to use your drill bit:

Using the drill and the metall drill bit drill a hole into the bowl. It would be a good idea to use protective glasses, as the enamel might splinter:

Make holes in all the bowls and into the plate. Also drill a small hole in the side of the plate to pull the cable through later. Spread some glue around the top of the bowls and put the bowls on top of each other like this:

Put your rod through the holes (here it helps if you did actually find the middle of each bowl before drilling, don't ask....)
and fix a screw and washer on each side of the rod. Pull your cable through:

Connect the cable to the mounting and the plug, then glue everything in place:

I first put this paper lamp shade on and quite liked it, but then decided I wanted to try something else also:

I used an old lampshade, took the fabric off, cut some colorful fabric strips, knotted the strips on top of the shade, put some fabric glue on and tied them around the supports of the lampshade:

Then I decorated with some wooden butterflies and some beautiful birds:

Put your lampshade on the mounting and screw in place, and enjoy your lovely lamp!

Lots of love to you :-)
