Taking my writing seriously again might not be such a brilliant idea. My first sentence already gets me stuck.

So here are some pictures instead, of the rain, of my wonderfully dark house, looking so different from its usual sunny self.

And of my chickens (bird brains?). Getting wet next to their big, dry, open coop…

Something green

Remember yesterday's post and my decision to live with emptiness?

When I looked today, some things had already sneaked back in.

I better continue sorting out the stuff for tomorrow's flea market, otherwise everything will join me again happily in the house.

Space to breathe

The house is clean, sorted and very empty. I will live with it for a while before hanging things up or putting things down.


I am so grateful for my space to breathe!

Renovation update

We are now busy with our bedroom.

The two rooms that haven't been touched yet (my office and the dining/hang-out room) are filled with things.
Little things, big things, dirty things, cute things, chipped things, sentimental things, and plenty of things with no home.

I am getting SO tired of the mess.

At least by now the kitchen is functional again, although I haven't put anything back onto the (newly) painted shelves.
This time I will be very patient and make sure that they are properly dry before stacking the heavy dishes on...

Living room bliss

We finished the living room, and are now moving on to Eva's room. Yesterday she found the perfect shade of turquoise that
will replace the perfect shade of black she had on her wall.

Just some quick pictures of a lovely, clean room, I have to get back to filling in cracks (it is either that or cleaning 500 little
square windows while standing in the cactus garden... :-):

The spirits that I called, or, the joys of renovating

My beautiful, clean house has turned into a dusty, dirty, messy space.

After discovering that the healing room ceiling had been eaten by termites, we went into the roof (a 60 cm high, hot, dusty,
dark crawl space).

Over the many years of its lifetime, the parapet walls have started to disintegrate, and the low space under the roof is filled
with dust. That dust sprinkles (and occasionally rains) down on us through the wooden ceiling.

So for the last couple of days we have been up there, cleaning, vacuuming and getting very dirty. As has my house...
It looks like the dust has just been re-distributed, from upstairs to downstairs.
At least the termites seem to have left. If anyone needs the services of a termite whisperer, let me know :-).


The only room in the whole house that is serene, clean and beautiful is the healing room.

I can't wait for the house to get back to a liveable state. Also can't wait to spend my free time blogging and drinking tea
instead instead of renovating...

Here some healing room impressions (there were some questions as to why the space is called 'healing room', I work as
an energy healing facilitator and this is my work room :-) ).


My friend Esther crocheted and starched some beautiful bowls. I took a short-cut to something similar by starching an old
doily. I also sewed some doilies onto a woolen blanket:

Then we built a little shelf out of two boxes and some pallet parts:

I also took some thick rope and embedded fairy lights into it. To do that, turn the rope open with both hands and press the cable
of the fairy lights in the opening. I saw this idea some time ago on Pinterest, but couldn't find it now and can't remember where it came from:

Second living room

Our house started off as a tiny three-room cottage. The walls are build with cow dung and clay, and you can feel
the walls breathe (but you can't hang up anything remotely heavy...).

Over the years six more rooms have been added, three on either side of the original three.
Every room in the house has at least two doors, and if you so wish you can spend hours running around in circles
(luckily nobody wishes to do that anymore, it used to drive me bonkers when Eva was smaller...).

Because of these additions, the room in the middle of the house doesn't have any windows. We put in a big glass
door on one side and an arch on the other, so it is pretty light anyway. It gets used as a kind of second living room.
