Ojo de Dios DIY

An Ojo de Dios or God's Eye is made with sticks and yarn and was first made by the native people of Mexico and
South America.
Ojo's are said to bring good luck to the home, and are often given as a present when a child is born.
Traditionally they are called Sikuli, which means the power to perceive and understand things unknown.

I just loved doing this project. It is easy and fun and at the same time strangely calming.

If you would like to make your own eye of God, you need two sticks or two dowels and yarn in different colors.

Start by finding the middle of your dowels, knot your yarn around it and then start wrapping the yarn around the sticks. You first go over one stick, then under the same stick and on to the next one.
'Over - under'. That is all you have to remember :-):

Here is what it will look like at the back:

When you want to change colors, knot the two strings together in the back:

It is important to pull your string relatively tight

Keep going until you get towards the end of your sticks, then either put some feathers or beads on, or wrap yarn around the end of the sticks:

Then enjoy your God's eye and this beautiful day!

Love
