Poster DIY

Another holiday.

A lie-in, banana pancakes for breakfast, and time to try out new ideas.

Heaven!

For a long time now, I wanted to have a big enlargement of a photo to put on my wall.
But after getting a quote from a printer here I gave up on the idea.

Until this morning, when I found a way to make funky posters at home, for free!

All you need is a printer and The Rasterbator. This is a programme that turns photos into huge black and white dotted pictures. You can download it for free here.

Once it is downloaded, choose a picture and open it in Rasterbator. If the programme doesn't want to open make sure you have extracted all the files from the ZIP file.
You can choose the number of prints that make up your poster, and you can choose the size and color of the dots.
Then print it (I think you will need Adobe Reader to be able to open it), glue it together and enjoy!

Here are the different pages. My printer made a small white frame around each pic. I cut it of and glued the sheets with masking tape at the back:

And here is my new poster:

Have a wonderful day!

Lots of love,

  1. Hi Jutta, cool idea. I will check out that program. I thought in order to rather have one large sheet (instead of several ones glued together) one could maybe try out what we have done as teenagers: put your poster with its face down, on a large cardboard and then take some cotton balls and thinners and rub it from the back. That way the ink should transfer to the large paper/cardboard. It ususally has an interesting and cool effect, depending on how even you rub the back... it does not work with all inks or paper, so try it out first with a small print-out. photocopies work well and we used to do this transfer from/with magazine images (if the paper was not too thick).
