Embroidery hoops used as picture frames - a DIY

There is just something about embroidery hoops.

Although I have never used them as intended, I am fascinated by them.

So this morning, when the crafty itch got too bad to ignore any longer, I went to the fabric shop and came home with
some of the wooden beauties.

This, btw, is a typical loooong German sentence. There must be some way to say the same thing in English, but I
can't come up with it right now.
Might have something to do with Frida the rooster standing next to me crowing loudly:

But I am getting side -tracked here.

Some time ago I saw embroidery hoops used as picture frames here and decided to do something similar.

You will need a computer, a printer, a photo you like, t-shirt transfer paper, an iron, embroidery hoops, fabric glue, some
wool, and some colorful fabric.

Print your picture onto the transfer foil and then iron it onto a piece of white fabric.
Find more info on how to use transfer paper here.

Cut your fabric with the picture on into a shape you like, and put the colorful fabric into your embroidery hoops:

Glue the printed picture onto the fabric with fabric glue:

If you want to, embroider the picture using different colored wool, and then cut the fabric close to the embroidery hoop,
so it doesn't show from the front:

I am thinking of doing one  for every member of our household, animals included:

Have a fabulous Thursday, I am on my way now to pick up my computer, which seems to be working again (a new hard
drive and a lot of hard cash later....).

Hugs to you,

Photobucket

P.s: I am linking to these lovely parties.

  6. Why is the rooster doing in the house? :))))) I love your hoops and the fabric and most of all the stitch on the outline of the photos. And I can't say how many times I've walked pass a fabric shop, refraining myself from buying a couple of the hoops...

  9. You could be busy if you do every member of the family including animals :). I love how you added the embroidery stitches to the pictures, it gives it another layer and detail. The pictures you selected are adorable. And, I love that you just have a rooster walking around your house.

  12. What a pretty idea! Love how they turned out. Your rooster is in the house?? lol We won't even let the chickens in the workshop, even though they sure do try to join us.
Oh, and that sentence you thought was too long, is just fine. Not too long at all for what you are saying and the punctuation is perfect.
