First family outing

For the last three weeks, Liesl has been sitting on three eggs. Patiently and diligently, despite the heat wave and the
flies, while Frieda (the rooster) hung out in the house with me and the dogs.

When I came home from yoga class last week Wednesday, Frieda came running towards me, flapping his wings and crowing loudly. Very clearly something exciting had happened :-).

When I checked on Liesl, a tiny little chick looked out from underneath the safety of her wing.

She stayed in her nest for a couple of more days, but yesterday afternoon the little family came outside for the first time.
In the nest was one dead little chickie and one egg that Liesl had obviously given up on.

Here some pics of the first outing:

Both parents are very protective and very involved, showing the little one how to scratch and how to wipe its beak and
how to have a sand bath.

Such fun to watch!

Although Liesl chases me off whenever she thinks that I come too close.
Now I just really hope that it is a little girl...

Have a great start to the week!

Lots of love,

  7. You go Liesl, you take care of your little cute, gorgeous chick. You protect her (positive thinking). But really, you don't have to worry about that woman with the big black camera thingy! Just be aware of those cute but carnivorous dogs....

  10. It's kind of sad that only one of her babies made it but they look like such proud parents. They teach their chicks to have dust baths that young? I do wish I could have chicks but I can't inflict a rooster on my neighbours. Those photos have brightened my week. Thanks!

  13. There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.
