Angel tutorial

Last week my parents send me a picture of these gorgeous angels they made:

Aren't they beautiful?

A new project for Eva and I! Unfortunately we couldn't get gypsana here. My parents used it for the heads and the wings which looks really pretty, but is not that appropriate in Africa anyway :-).
So I decided to do it with wallpaper glue and newspaper, making black and white faced angels instead.

Here is what you need:

Wooden logs (make sure they stand nicely), cardboard to cut out the wings, long and shorter nails to fix the heads and the wings to the wood, newspaper and wallpaper glue or gypsana, styrofoam balls (mine have a diameter of 7 cm / 2,7 inches), some decoration for the heads.

Put a nail through the middle of the ball

You can hammer the nail in now already or wait until you have covered the head. We tried both versions, they both work fine

Now start tearing the newspaper into small-ish pieces, soak them in wallpaper glue and start to cover one side of the wings. Let it dry before you do the other side

Then cover the head. Once the glue is dry, nail the wings onto the back and decorate the head. The angels are really easy to make, the only problem we had was that the camelthorn wood we used is extremly hard. It is VERY difficult to make holes into it :-).

Here are the angels. This is Martha, sprouting the little net I use to keep flies out of my wine on her head

This is Johannes, with a gorgeous cupcake hat

And here we have Sebastian who has got the packaging from last night's take-away as a crown

They were a bit shy in the beginning and first didn't want to come into the house

But after some sweet talking to they settled in on the kitchen table

  3. How resourceful! I could probably scrounge all these things up from around the house {inside and out}, but never would have thought to make something so clever. Thank you for sharing.

I also have no gypsana at home and Newspaper seems to be the perfect alternative - thanks for the hint!
